Why we publish rollback comics for flash-sale launches
Jonah Pike · 2024-12-18
Rollback instructions often live in wikis nobody opens during incidents. We experimented with three-panel comics that walk through decision forks without infantilizing engineers.
Each comic links to deeper runbooks, but the visual path answers "what do I do in the next two minutes?" That timebox matches how command centers actually behave.
Art direction stays monochrome so printouts remain legible under red lighting. Accessibility reviewers check contrast and reading order.
Teams told us the comics reduced cross-talk during bridges because everyone referenced the same frame numbers. We are expanding the library slowly to avoid visual noise.
